Obviously over the top with regards to your boys situation, however it is good that they are checking up so that any recipients who do not qualify can be removed from the scheme.

Totally agree Mick, I hope they catch plenty. We really went public as there are a lot of very disabled people without anyone to advocate & we have heard already of pensions being revoked - one acquaintance in a wheelchair because he couldn't get appointments with the specialists !!
Its a catch 22 for the taxpayer here as it costs $700 for an approved IQ test - not sure how much is Medicare rebated- plus all the specialists & doctor referrals. Pretty dumb given that Centrelink have thousands on their books with lifelong disabilities. Think Cerebral palsy, Autism etc. It is supposedly a random audit of 90,000 recipients.

We have been trying to get a Disability Support Pension for Deb,they have but her through hell.
They keep asking for more paperwork wich doesn't get recoknised until you follow up and ask what happened, thet then ask for more.Deb has a pile of photocopys of paperwork sent 1" high.
They have sent her to doctors, got reports from her doctors and specialists, have taken copies of our bank statements and my pay slips numerous times. They asked this week for another batch of my payslips and bank statements.
They demand she attend interviews, she tells them she cant drive, she gets told to use public transport,we don't have any!!!!!! I take yet another day off to take her to the city. They have done some interviews over the phone, then tell her to speak clearly or they cant understand her.
The last Centrelink doctor told her she cant see a problem why they haven't granted the pension, she only needs 20 points to qualify, she has 40 points.
The latest call yesterday, another hour and a half on the phone for Deb,then the operator told her she cant understand Deb and couldn't help.Deb went to the Medical Centre in town and got the nurse to call.
Turns out her pension has been approved, but they cant work out how much to pay her because of my earnings. Not been given a health care card or anything in the interim, not even informed that she is eligible for the DSP.
What aload of crap.I cant claim her as a dependant, she has zero income,is unemployable, cant drive due to permanent damage from her stroke.
If she was a crack whore, alcaholic meth addict they would bend over backwards to help her.Being a taxpayer for her whole life means nothing it seems.

    Andrew,
I can only say that we had the most action - since way back- once Deb cottoned on to her local MP ( even better if in opposition).
Give Centrelink a fair warning that you have been driven to this action.
Unfortunately its the noisy cog that gets the oil. And make sure you get any entitlements backdated to when Deb became eligible, this may be only when notification was given.
I bet we, as a family, have a fairly large file by now..
    Good luck.

I've heard lots of similar stories.
Reminds me of the time Centrelink lost its file about one of our sons while he was a student, so instead of continuing to pay him its miserable allowance while they corrected their error, they cut off his payments and left him without any money in Sydney. He had to couch surf, borrow money, quit his course and get work to survive - all because Centrelink had lost his file. Never apologised to him or made up the money it owed him either.
He was so angry he has since then refused to have any dealings whatsoever with Centrelink - just boycotted it entirely. I don't blame him.

I don't have a problem with Centerlink cracking down on those who don't deserve their payments, its taxpayers money they are saving. We have a neighbour who is on the Disability Support Pension because he is an alcoholic,I kid you not.
To hear what they have done with David's son is ridiculous. In Debs case its bordering on abuse, one would think the payment is coming out of the desk jockeys revewing the clients cases pocket.

after my near fatal turn i went to the trouble of applying for a health care card as i was having a lot of difficulty doing an hours work much less a days work and the income stream dropped to next to nothing..

went through the whole hullabaloo and never heard a dam thing back so just got on with life and dragged myself back to work as best i could.

12 months later i got an sms saying they were cancelling my health care card because i failed to lodge a new return..

sent them a polite note saying i was never advised i got the card, never received a card and never had any correspondence of any nature relating to the application.

i regularly checked that mygov site as well and nothing ever came up there either.

after a lifetime of paying tax and always trying to do the right thing it really gets up my nose that i get treated like i tried to rip them off the first time i applied for something i was entitled to according to their own documentation..

can't wait to play the game in a bit over 3 years when i attempt to go on the old age pension, if there is anything left of it by the time i get there of course...
