I am a newbie to forums, what you mean?
ok, gcampbell , your request is possibly one of the most common in this forum.
usually someone points the poster in the right direction.
there are hundreds of pages of information available to you by simply scrolling to the bottom of the page and using "search AULRO.com ONLY!"
happy searching....
No worries!
Glenn,
I will disagree here the Aulro search function has issues, yes this has been discussed heaps. Often easier to search google and look for the AULRO links.
That said what you have asked often do not go hand in hand, cheap and long wearing.
It will depend on your budget, intended use, size and care.
I would be looking at a second set of rims if the ones you have are standard 18" as there is not a lot available and what is are fairly limited and expensive. 18" road tyres on the other hand are expensive.
I am going through this with my sons D2 atm. For the time being the road tyres will do, but when funds allow will get a set of 16" wheels and off road tyres.
Where do you start, what tyres serve one person well, other hate with a passion. I would say you could get a reasonable 16" for around the $200-$250 mark and shopping around can make this better even sometimes as low as $170 ea. I have had good runs out of Hankook Dynapro's and they can be bought for sub $200 ea. I would not touch another Coopers STT or ST, though mining companies seem to like them. I am currently running Hercules tyres and they have done 30,000kms and barely started to wear. I have had good runs out of BFGs but they can be expensive. Mickey Thompsons have been getting good reports and can also be sub $200. Maxxis Bighorns are also getting good reports and can be bought sub $200 (likely what I will put on my sons, have run their road tyres on 3 cars now and find them fantastic for the price). Would not touch Dunlops or Bridgestones as IMHO they have completely dropped the ball over the last few years and way too expensive. Currently have Nexen road tyres on the D2 and they do AT's in 16" at a decent price but dont know what they are like. Goodyear the same as Bridgestone and have seen a lot of failures in the recent incarnations of Goodyears.
Again it will depend on your budget and how you use them.

yay.....here we go again
bridgestone 694's
Yet you post Bridgestone 694s that I hate
Yes he can search, but those of us that want can answer.
As I have said personal preference has a lot to do with it as does history with particular brands. I think for Glenn cost may be an issue which may put some brands off the list.
Glenn what I suggest is work out you budget and then search what is available in that range, narrow it down to say 4-6 brands and models then ask about them specifically.
I can guarantee you that you will find pro and anti people here for all tyres.
The other thing to bear in mind is what can you get in the middle of nowhere when you need to replace 1.
