Strict speed enforcement detrimental to road safety, study finds - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
Der! I could have told them that.
I passed an accident the other day. A roll over.
It appeared to me the driver failed to see the numerous massive pot holes one needed to avoid in that short section of road.
I must admit, being a regular driver on that road, I didn't realize there were so many. I'm usually too busy staring at my speedo.
The "Do-Gooders" will never listen to that rationale.

It is a real effect... it does annoy me how much attention I must pay to the speedo when I would prefer to spend that effort being more situationally aware. A similar effect has been proven in the case of too many road signs.
And don't get me started on the madness of the highway overtake while trying not to speed....![]()
I must say I think I spend too much time looking for signs while wondering if the speed limit is, 60, 80, 100 or 110 or something else, rather than watching the other traffic.
In Thailand when I lived there the opposite was true - you hardly ever saw any signs, but you certainly needed to watch the other traffic, particularly those decrepit trucks and the suicidal bikers.
Sorry but Driving involves multi tasking, it people can't do both then maybe some should hand their licences in. It only takes a quick glance to look at speedo, look in rear vision mirror and look an concentrate on the road ahead. Too many drivers fail to look more than a few feet ahead of them.
Re pot holes:
Recently I was traveling on a 100kph highway that had pot holes due to the heavy rain and there were warning signs to that effect , the temporary speed limit was set to 60 kph. It was set for about 3 kms. Drivers sped through at 100kph ignoring the temp speed limit, and further damaged the road and threw up stones onto other vehicles including mine. They were just blatantly ignore the speed limit. I must admit
I was sitting on 60kph and was passed by these idiots, but I did feel like a fool. But at the back of my mind was if there was a highway patrol vehicle up ahead 40 kms over the speed limit would be loss of licence and it was not an option I was willing to risk. Others may have thought the risk was worthwhile.
I think you're hi lighting the problem - too many speed changes with 1 or 2kph tolerance on the cameras.
Sure driving requires multiple skills but when the main focus on the mind is not getting booked, the task of hazard perception is secondary.
Dopes sailing along irrespective of a speed limit deserve what they cop, but intolerance - as identified by using cameras - does not, and will never work because the focus is on a speed, not driving.
All good but when i learnt to drive there were only 3 speed limits 60 Km/h ,75 Km/h & 100 km/h that i can recall.
Now what do we have 40 , 50 , 60 , 75 , 80 , 90 , 100 , 110 , It irk`s me alot and im a professional truck driver that on many occasion ill be traverling along a road that might have changed speed a few times and between everything else that is going on im at a lose as to what speed im meant to be doing because i thought i might have missed a sign .
Now should i give up driving as i cant multi task even tho i have not had a blame or not blame worthy accident in over 20 years![]()
