Just thought I'd throw that bit of useless trivia in...
Some historian. It's only in recent times it was called the Corkman. When Irish pubs became the flavour.
It was "The Carlton Inn" for most of it's existance.

I'd rather have the church back.
They should be forced to rebuild the church back to an improved design

    (Disclaimer: I'm a minister in a church)

It wasn't aimed at you. It was aimed at the "historian" with a short attention span.
Most commercial buildings built back then were ugly. They were built for function and purpose. The fuss is that it had a heritage overlay.
historically significant as one of the earliest extant buildings in this part of Carlton, which has undergone substantial change since the time of its initial phase of construction in 1857. The Carlton Inn is of aesthetic significance as a good example of the Victorian period. The facade is relatively plain and generally indicative of the early to mid-Victorian period, though the parapet may date to the later Victorian period. The facade has a stucco finish but the original corner section may be partly stone.
If that means nothing, there are a lot more buildings we should be dozing.

Oh, it was in Carlton. We should meet up with the usual crew there (Carlton) one Friday or Saturday night.
