When I was a kid the local pet shop paid me $1 a foot for non poisonous snakes and $6 afoot for poisonous snakes - the local reptile park paid $30 for goannas.
Mainly caught diamond pythons and red bellies with the occasional brown or tiger. Mum got all upset when she found out my brother was storing them under the house until we could get them to the petshop.

When I lived in Malaysia there was often stories of villagers being killed by Burmese Pythons that they were trying to catch.
The usual scenario was that two blokes would try to catch the snake , have trouble and one would run back to the village to get help, only to come back to a dead mate.

In the '60's I used to get, from Uni of Qld., $4 each for Blue Ringed Octopus.
Pretty good money for a young fella at the time.
I used to get them from the rocks around Scarborough & Redcliffe.
My Mum wasn't too impressed to find one on the side of the 'fridge one morning after it absconded from it's bucket.
