After all the stuff going on in Australia, in the last two decades, I think its a combination of a lot of things...
Everyone is noticing a little bit of the effect but to be honest, I've noticed a lot of things that have changed this country and its a massive snowball...
Probably the worst thing to happen is the amount of restrictions and propaganda applied to them... People have forgotten what restricting society can do to a society... The prime example to that, happened in the 20's in the US... The whole world noticed "Prohibition" yet that was one public nightmare...
Restrictions by laws, produce rebuttal from the public, but not openly.. If you make laws like increased fines for those that do 5 k over the speed limit, it increases by more people going over that speed... Its a nasty cycle, but the worst bit is it removes money from the lower end of society and fills the coffers... Trouble with that is, it costs more to handle the increase in fines and revenue, thus the increase is chewed up on expenditure...
At the end of the day, all it does is make people believe its going to improve things but in fact it makes things worse and people no longer use there own self control..
Buying local would be nice if the government actually stopped restricting farmers from the local markets and stopped supporting large companies against small business, but alas that does not follow the idea of centralisation...
Alas its just a big cycle of poverty and repression.. It would be a lot better if the people where given the freedoms we had 30+ years ago and stuck to running the country for the people and maintaining public entities...
The whole of society is being affected and people only see the restriction in front of them, but are willing to apply more restriction to others.. This turns into abuse of other peoples ways and the revolving door of violence and abuse continues...
The one that annoys me the most is when people say we dont want migrants in Australia.. Unless your full blood Aboriginal, your a Migrant, even being an ancestor of one.. I am and a friend who has an aboriginal ancestor is also, as they have Scottish ancestry too...Every race and religion was in this country within 50 years of settlement and quite a few where on those ships that arrived in Botany bay and then moved around to Sydney harbour...
It would be nice if this country became the "Lucky Country" again and we all got along like 30+ years ago...
Well thats my thoughts anyway... :p
