How old is too old for a new tire?

The older they are the longer they last.
They get harder as they are stored so do lots more kms on the road.

I have done a tyre delimitation case involving old tyres. Got the leading tyre deflation specialist engineer involved. Age is most definitely a consideration. Cheers

I am guilty of capitalizing on that..
My BFG's on my TD5 are now getting towards replacement after 12 years and my Swampers are a bit older than that & no where near half worn.
Downside is they are noisier & not as "grippy" so you need to be aware of that.

The exceptional bargain price that was offered to me is a 23% discount on the initial price.
So basically a four year old Pirelli Scorpion ATR has the same price as a new Falken FK/AT.

What do you think? are they still a catch or should I search for an alternative?

If you like that brand of tyre (as I do) go for it. Good for gravel, sand etc, but not the best mud tyre. Even if they only last you say 4 years before wearing out, you have lost nothing. Mind you, did we ever talk about a spare?
My only minor bitch is that they hold stones in the tread, and in my case seem to be a magnet for picking up tek screws.
