Welfare, why people give up looking for work.

with unemployment being a hottish topic I thought Id share this...

I had a meeting with a truck driving company, laid all my cards on the table during the meeting and got the instructions on what I needed to do and waited for the email from the company with the med cert document they needed me to get done.

What follows is the email trail with company names removed.

I've just gotten back and am about to start on the induction training
stuff and am waiting to hear back for the medical appointment.

I expect to get this stuff sorted this week (unless *telco* screw up
    on the billing again)

and have my removal deliveries around the 4th and 7th of november.

If it works out with you my intent is to attempt to get all of the
training stuff done between now and the end of my removals and then
start with a full time commitment. I expect that in the worst case
that should have me turning tyres for you without limitation within 3
    weeks

    Just a quick update.

I've just gotten my license transferred over however its currently
only the interim paper certification and I have a 2 week wait for the
    photo version to arrive.

I have completed the *shop* induction as required and have the cert printed.

I have had trouble getting onto the fatique management course and am
currently waiting on the *govt agt* IT department to get back to me with
a resoultion. At this stage I'm unable to get a local appointment for
the drivers medical before Monday afternoon. If all goes well I should
have both completed by monday afternoon.

Are there any other requirements I've missed at this stage?

    Regards

Do you have a number and name for one that you use that knows whats
required and can do the assessment?

If Its possible I should be available on relatively short notice to
attend at the *shop* distribution center to complete the computer based
training for the rest of this week.

I'll be away from Saturday through till late Tuesday doing removals
stuff and will need to be away for a similar block of time to
co-ordinate the second half of the delivery.

See how you go but we really need to get someone else up and running this week, so at this time, sorry we can't use you.

are now filled, the extra time now available this week was unexpected

Had the time off I required been identified as being a problem for you
at the time I could have rescheduled and re-organized what is
happening this week to be able to provide you with the continuous
block of time to complete the training as well as having
re-prioritized obtaining the certificate and Drivers License to reduce
    the induction delay.

    Thanks
so now, Im out of the job I thought I was going to get, out of 2 of the other jobs that I could have gotten only have one place I have to call back left but suspect that as I've already turned that down wont get that position turned down 2 more interviews expecting that I wasnt going to need them and now have to restart the whole process of searching for work again, presumably to go through this mess all over again.

This **** has got to be a major contributer as to why people might just want to sit on the dole, its got to be easier.

Dave, given the process you had to go through I assume it was a largish company??

All your work is wasted as you are now several steps ahead of where you were at the start which puts you in a better position for when the next similar roll presents.......private enterprise do operate a whole lot different tot he green machine.

It easily a five week process where I work.......recently while advising a guy he was successful in the interview and will be progressed a re-structure was released and I could no longer hire, hiring tradespersons or anybody takes a lot of effort.

Give the rent a slavers a go. The short term casual rates might tide you over long enough. The only downside is that if the job you are in goes permanent there is a good chance you will be let go , as they wont be willing to pay the finders fee. Often found the employer would make you compete with the other casuals. The less desirable would be replaced and so the cycle continues. Good luck and I hope you don't get caught in the casual loop.

    Dave,

It does look like you really got the run around on this one, but not all employers are going to be like that.

As Weeds points out, private enterprise is very different in that regard to the green machine. That comes with plenty of positives and just as many negatives.

You've now got some of those hurdles out of the way for the next decent job you find. Persistence is the key and honestly I would have thought a bloke with your skills is sure to find something - even if it;s not the ideal job first up.

Good luck mate... I hope you don't run into to many others that dick you around on the way to finding what you want...
