    Looks like the Melbourne Cup has sunk to a new low if all the reports and Pics/ videos are anything to go by , cant believe the amount of rubbish generated by this gathering of drunken fools as displayed on the media and who have done nothing for the Australian image . I not a wowser and am all for a good time but this is just plain over the top .

    Whilst I agree it's just a bunch of yobbos, once a year, having what they call a "good time" whilst overindulging, I would much rather see accounts of it on the national news than watch reports of injury and death from war torn parts of the world. It's also a good thing the constabulary were there to make sure they didn't get behind the wheel too!

    If you want to see a real messy race meet go to the Cairns Amateurs. They don't even have toilets for the men the just have a hessianed off area on the grass and allocate all the dunnies to the ladies. As the day progresses it is not unusual to see some shameless ladies in the hessian area squatting in their fancy frocks.

    Hi,
    And yet we have been to some events like Taste of the Huon, Sandy Bay twilight festival, Longford folk festival and similar, where every one has placed all their food wrappers, drink containers etc in or by the provided bins.
    I think one needs a certain type of arrogance to drop litter for others to pick up.
