Keep in mind only a small % of wells are fracked, as it often isn't necessary, and only a minute amount of chemical is used. Also there are natural gas leaks everywhere - very common. I bet gas is leaking on many house blocks naturally and people don't even know.

I'm told that most of the gas wells around Miles in Queensland were NOT fracked because it was unnecessary. Also, the 'burning river' that such a fuss was made about was natural and that leak has existed for a long time.

Yes, the burning river is natural. The burning tap water, unfortunately is not. Heavily contaminated with proprietary drilling chemicals. And I do mean proprietary, because different companies use their own secret herbs and spices so can be traced.....
The towns of the Western Downs are between a rock and a hard place. If they protest the mining / fracking, they lose jobs, and the town dies a natural death. No one I know in the towns out that way wants to stop the mining, jobs mean survival, some cattle & sheep station owners are worried about their ground water quality, but are pragmatic about most of the issues, hoping the mining companies are truthful when they say the fracking is safe. It is not a worry I would like to have.
