Fiona Stanley hospital - our positive experience

If you read the media here in WA, all you generally hear about the Fiona Stanley Hospital are negative reports.

However, since our 9 year old son was admitted on Saturday afternoon (with what we initially thought was a really sore back and has very scarily developed into some sort of kidney issue) all I can report are highly positive experiences.

We were so lucky our usual doctors had just closed which prompted us to head to emergency. Initially we weren't too concerned but when he started crying with the pain and vomiting we thought something wasn't quite right.

First of all great that the kids emergency is divided off from adults (and all he druggies etc you see there). Then we had a great young Irish doctor, some lovely nurses and a fantastic paediatrician who took the time to run some tests and work out all wasn't what it seemed (especially when our boy was then saying he was feeling fine).

Next steps involve being admitted to an awesome kids ward. Great room and again amazing doctors and nurses who all have the best rapport with kids.

We still don't know exactly what the issue is, it seems like we are living an episode of House and it is a very unsettling experience. However, I know there are some staff on this forum who work there so thank you to all the staff for all your help.

    Thanks EastFreo

Its great seeing positive experience posts.

Fiona Stanley is a complex project and I'm not surprised that there were teething problems.

    Cheers

Luckily we have had some more positive results today. With luck it may have been a strep infection that has caused necrosis of the kidneys. If so should be a full recovery fingers crossed.

However have to share that a short while ago he was lucky enough to receive about 10 video 'get well soons" from the Wallabies!

He has a friend who has just got into the squad.

Been better than any medicine and he is literally jumping up and down with excitement. Have to really thank all the players!

I must say with all the hospital time Deb and her mum have done in the last 4 years we have had a bloody good run out of Charlies and RPH.
The staff and doctors have been brilliant, and they look after country patients,no waiting at all in outpatients
SHAME the government hasn't spent money on upkeep, the buildings are in poor to average condition.

    The New Royal Adelaide

You should all feel so lucky that you are not in South Australia, mind you, the nurses and doctors are fantastic, it is just the Governments handling of the health system.

Glad all are getting better, cheers.
