    Car Trailer Favour

    Hi All,
I am currently working away from Brisbane (in Melb) and my sons VR Commodore ute appears to have spat an alternator in Albany Creek.

Being a clunker, we don't have RACQ so is anyone able to assist he and the good wife to trailer it back to Ferny Hills?

The car is in a shopping centre car park so pretty safe.

Any good Samaritan will of course be rewarded in some mutually acceptable fashion.

    Cheers
    Ralph

Sorry, if I had have seen this earlier I probably could have been 'driving' the car to have it towed using my RACQ Ultimate account...

If nothing else comes up, if he hires a trailer I am happy to tow it. No compensation required.

    Thanks Guys!
    All sorted.
As Muddy suggested, we found enough electricity to get it going.
Mum and Sons concern was the smoke coming from the alternator.
Experience tells me that once all the smoke is out it stops smoking so Mum went over connected my D3 via jumper leads and left it to partially charge the ute for 30 minutes.

Once it started the smoke did indeed run out after a few minutes so Son drove it the few km home.

Luckily the job to change an alternator on a VR/VS is simple and a friend will do it during the week.

I appreciate the advice and assistance offered.

    Cheers All.

If you go to a LR dealer you might be able to get replacement smoke for the alternator.

I believe that they used to stock it for smoke replacement in series Landies.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

I've still got some to suit wiring harnesses - not sure if it will also work in an alternator, but worth a try ...............

    Cheers .........
