Thread: I hope no one was hurt... or worse

I have been driving a truck for a mate the last couple mornings , this morning I left the depot just before 3am and i'm in a semi with a 50ft refrigerated container on the trailer and there is a full on monsoon downpour going on , im doing 40ks/hr and can only just see the running lights on the rear of the trailer , can see maybe 50mtrs in front. I turn onto the main road and its 4 lanes,- 2 each side , median strip in the middle and bush on both sides of the road . ( Tiger brennan drive at the Berrimah rd lights for those that know Darwin ).
Go about 600mtrs and the rain is pelting the wing mirrors of the truck but I reckon I see a car on the wrong side of the road heading same direction as me, there is a sweeping corner ahead and he/she would have no way of seeing something coming the other way, so I pull over and stop the truck but no lights are there. I get out walk to the back of the trailer and look but visibility is not much better and I can just make out the halo of the traffic lights and the street lights back at the intersection , so put it down as seeing the street lights in the rain lashed wing mirror,


Go do my delivery , come back about 4.45am and come around the corner in the right hand lane as I need to turn at the lights , and there is a police car on the shoulder of the road with his lights flashing , and as I go past I can just see the wheels of a upside down car that's gone down into the gully facing the wrong way. I couldn't pull over as I had traffic behind me , and I would have needed to go a fair way to be able to turn around and go back , so thought I would stop on my next run.


I get back about 40 mins later and the cops have gone and I stopped and walked over and sure enough a ute is upside down looking in a bad way facing the way I was heading , so I can only assume I had seen its lights as it spun off the road. I hope no one was seriously hurt or worse as I was only 500 mtrs away when it most likely happened. The problem was it was that low down that until you got close you couldn't even see it was there.


Might go for a drive to the cop shop and tell them what I may have seen , might give them a timeline if it was serious.
Will watch the news tonight and see if anything is said about it , im going to feel pretty average if it was serious or fatal.

Well I went to the cop shop and told them what I think I seen , and all they asked was did I see anyone either trying to get a ride or running from the area.


From that I can only assume the car was found with no one around and its either a drunk driver who has done a runner or stolen and trashed.


My heart sank when I turned on the news and heard of a death in a vehicle rollover , but that was a long way from where this happened.


So I feel happy now in saying Hilux, very breakable.
