Scrap Value of Series III LWB

    Hello All,

I was randomly selected by the nice folks at my most favourite government department for an audit. I have to value a Long Wheel Base Series III Land Rover that is a non-runner. I figured that the most realistic value is scrap value.

The current value per ton for "light steel" is according to my nearest Metal Recycler is $50.00 per ton.

According to Accessed November 22, 2016 from, SERIES I, II, IIA, III SPECIFICATION a 109 is
Dimensions: Unladen weight from 3459 lbs
This equates to 1.56897601 ton or 1.6 ton rounded up.

Therefore 1.6 ton at $50 per ton light steel equals $78.45

Do these figures seem right to you?

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

My father and I had the same detailed survey last time around. She told us that it would only take about half an hour. For my 7 cars, 1 truck, 4 trailers and two boats and my fathers 2 cars, 2 trailers and 6 houses, they wanted to know values, yearly expenditures, repair costs and incomes. The interview took over two hours. Good luck.

That is a very detailed audit if they are putting a value on a wreck.
I hope you haven't got any gold in your teeth!

    Thanks Everyone,

    Your input is valued .....

However ... do my mathematics add up?????

My thoughts are none of them are running - none of them are registered even with the club. Some of them are no more than rolling chassis with or without an engine. Some only have the rolling chassis and a firewall. All things considered it was just easiest to go off the weight of a whole vehicle... Just as scrap value. Because frankly I would be dreaming if any other person would be dumb enough to pay more for them than scrap value. When you get bitten by the Land Rover bug you get bitten hard! Then this softens your brain cells. "Wot you want how much for it? ... oh that sounds fair" Come in Spinner.

    Kind Regards

    Hello All,

Twenty minutes of being grilled later - after waiting three weeks for the 'compulsory" appointment. One review is over - well the face to face aspect of it anyway.

Now we have to wait until sometime in February before we get a nice little telephone call to let us know how things went. It is so good to have bureaucracy playing with your life and leaving you on tenterhooks.

We were complemented for being so organised. I for some strange reason had everything nailed down to the last detail.Word document with referenced websites and associated spreadsheet showing all calculations attached to form ... Must have something to do with my being a researcher.

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

You should be able to claim the old Series (Serii?) as a liability, Lionel.

    1 x scrap Series _ $ 78.45 (exc. GST)
Less transport to Sims _ $120.00 (GST Inc.)

    Net value _ -$41.55

I've set it out in a format that you can cut and paste, keeping your reputation intact.

I don't know the laws in Qld. but in NSW and ACT there is an environmental levy of $35/tonne on scrap cars, I used to make a fair living when scrap prices were around $150/tonne, but now I charge up to $100 to take scrap cars to the tip, might have to move to Qld., Regards Frank.

I have a scrap steel bin provided by one of the local scrappies and if they come and empty it I get nothing. The last one I took there earned me the princely sum of 28 clams for just under a tonne.

In conversation I asked what a car was worth. He said if I drove a Falcon or commodore into his yard, he would give me about $45 as scrap value.

This works out about $30 a tonne IF you deliver it to their yard. (Shawy's)
