out for dinner at a pub, what's a reasonable time to expect your meal.
Some neighbors , Heather & Myself went out for dinner tonight, pub meals.
it took 1.5 hours before we finally got our meals, and then only did we get them at different times, whilst some of us were half way through theirs the others were still waiting.
So we sat there and had a couple of drinks. Not even a bread roll to nibble on whilst we waited.
Eventually 1.5 hours we got to eat. Not a napkin in sight to wipe your hands nor mouths after eating.
One of our party complained to the manager who came out to to explain they had a function in the main bistro and it was parma Wednesday was the excuse. The staff taking the orders which were paid for in advance where lining up the tickets but not in order of being served, so our orders seemed to have been put behind all the time. He offered a free drink to compensate, we declined as we were driving.
One of our neighbors who recommended this place was very embarrassed as he previously never waited more than 20 mins.
We don't go out much so can't comment if this is the norm, but I found the whole experience a bit disappointing, surely I'm not being unreasonable., and the food was not really that good to warrant the wait.
PS: Rangieman, its not far from you, pm me and I'll tell you the place.

I would have walked at about an hour.
Don't know what the standard is like over there for pub meals and service these days, but we were staying in Sunbury earlier this year, and a group of us went out for a pub dinner at the Black Horse in Bulla. We were pretty impressed - good food and good service at a reasonable price.
Have been to a couple of pubs in Perth more recently where the food was VERY average. My own fault though - I know some very good pubs in Perth for a feed, and was trying somewhere different (and closer to where we were staying at the time). Next time, I'll go out of my way to stick with what I know.
Cheers .........

waiting, waiting, boiling all the time.
Would expect orders to be taken within 15 mins, some food on table in another 30 mins, in non-peak times.
For the busy times make that 20 mins to order and another 40 for the food.
Be asking questions after a wait of over an hour total.

I had a similar but almost funny one. Taken to dinner by a lady and about 15 others. All ordered meals and drinks. My dinner came out in about 20 minutes later. My entree came out shortly later. One other meal arrived 30 minutes later. Dummy spit by a few people occurred at about 1.30 hours later. Walk out was actually me being dragged out as I tried to pay for the food I ate. The others refused to allow me to pay. A few bottles of wine, a few beers and other drinks consumed but not paid for either.
Im patient by my other half has 30 minute limit.

I remember one memorable meal at a French restaurant in Perth. We waited nearly two hours for our entrees to come out. After three hours without any sign of most of our mains my diabetic friend had to bail out...with most of our table of eight leaving too.

So it might have been a once off given your neighbor has previously had good experiences
Maybe the function combined with being a Parma night did contribute and they will learn from it.
Im in Sydney for training and I ordered two entrees and asked for them to come with the mains, they said the meals come went they are ready. This place you had to collect your own meals when buzzer went off. Mine and two others come at the same time, the fourth turn up when we were finish than the garlic bread turned up last. I guess they did say the come out when ready so for us we couldn't complain.

Food to be delivered around 20 mins after ordering, unless you're ordering a "special" steak or something else out of the ordinary.
That's in a Pub anyway. If you're in a fine dining restaurant, that may not be the case, as that can sometimes be classed as a fine dining "experience", and there would be other enjoyable issues involved,....well, there should be.

Most every pub I've eaten in requires payment when ordering - so it would get fairly extreme to have to leave when it is already paid for. Fortunately almost all of my experiences have been good. I too, would forgo my $s after an hour and half I think.
One thing I have noticed here, and it may not apply outside NSW or in Sydney, is that pub meal quality has improved substantially over the last decade and this has been regrettably balanced by the decline in meal standards at licenced clubs - around here at least, club meals have become crap.
At one time, when travelling, I would gravitate to a club for a meal but I have had to change this habit.
Around here pubs seem to employ their chef and kitchen staff, while clubs tend to have a subcontractor with his own (family?) labour - hmmm.....

I can't remember the name of the joint, but had a great albeit expensive Italian feed at a two storey restaurant in Freo, a couple of years ago.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
