RACV Total Care will assist no matter what state you are in.

They will assist but only to the level of standard care when out of state, it that's what was said earlier anyways. So so far we know they won't pick you up if you are on logging trails and any dirt single lane....... And still won't say if they will pick us up if we make it to a main road. These guys are taking the **** surely, standard plan of attack get lady with nice smile to reassure that all is fine and give no real usable information to make an informed decision on how helpful the product would be in the real world.
I will not be getting total care again. When I took out the policy I grilled them on many different scenarios and they said yes we will recover from fire trails ect ect, this really ****es me off as it really does seem like deliberate disconnect from the customer service agents and real policy. I'm sure I'll get a lovely reassuring HR response from them on how they live to serve and I'm a special little snowflake of such importance to them..... And the HR circle of life continues as a separate entity to any real life recovery scenarios
Ok rant over
If they won't give the answers in writing, try recording the conversations.
Surly a recorded verbal version should carry the same weight as "in writing"
Incorrect - we recieved 3 nights accommodation in the NT and 3 nights accommodation plus free car hire in WA. All at zero cost. With towing of 20 km and 95 km respectively. Picked up at the side of a bitumen road but very much on the dirt in both cases. I will be keeping my total care paid up.
What a thread. Just finished reading it and think that a lot of the information is useful. I think Wardy has a reason to be annoyed due to trying to be honest and as a result not getting the help he needed. Hopefully they will end up coming to the party and reimbursing costs associated with getting the car to the repairer.
Unfortunately it's a simple case of having to lie. Get the car to a dirt road (one that allows a safe recovery) and then call them. Sometimes unfortunately you can get someone who is either not that helpful or has not the knowledge and gives you the wrong information. I have had the same thing with RACV Roadside assistance in the past. I ended up spending in excess of $500 to get my Disco home from a breakdown on a Saturday night on the Black Spur. Come the Monday I spoke with RACV and as a result they reimbursed all of my out of pocket expenses as well as paying for my first year of Total Care for the inconvenience. All it took was someone with better product knowledge that was willing to help (not that the 1st person was necessarily unhelpful). The recorded conversations help as they do listen to them. I still have the Total Care and wont be getting rid of it anytime soon, but it does have its limitations (like most things).
I think that if people thoroughly read T&C's with most things/services we pay for there are plenty of (for want of a better term) "get out" clauses. They make these things wide ranging to avoid having to put there workers/contractors in unsafe situations and avoid being pinned down to unreasonable expectations (i'm talking in general not just RACV TC here) and hence avoiding the possibility of legal action. Unfortunately civil litigation is an all to often occurrence of people trying to blame others for their mistakes and as a result we now have every organisation trying to cover their butts to avoid this.
I like most of us have bad experiences with some companies/organisations at some point, but I always recommend to take photos as they are the ultimate way to avoid misunderstanding and a picture is always worth a thousand words. The T&C's can be interpreted many ways, but I think that as long as you are on a road that is wide enough for 2 vehicles you should be right. I would always take photos just in case. Good luck Wardy, it will be interesting to hear if they reimburse.
