There's a few tracks off Sardine, we've explored a few in that area while camped at Delegate River and when you mentioned Sardine Creek it rung a bell for us too, Little Rich eventually ends just after you cross the river, we back tracked and eventually ended up on Rocky river Rd and back on to Sardine, a very adventurous day.
Cheers Baz.

I have Racq total care and I really did grill them on the phone before getting it as I am bloody sick of theses kinds of shady behaviour. I specifically related it to the cape and gulf country and she spoke to her superiors and told me yes it is on "any gazetted road that has a service agent in range"... To that I stated that sentence has useful information to me without outlining where I would not be in their operating area, she then spoke to supervisor again and said pretty much all major access roads apart from a few patches on the western side and in the gulf.
This was a while back but if the fine print hasn't changed in that time I will be asking for a full refund if that has changed. If I was misinformed I will be wanting a full refund (would be nice to get a copy of the audio recorded "for training purposes" but little chance of that.
I really hope this is a case of an operator just basically being a ***** as they were having a bad day and not the new real reality. As it's hard to get straight answers with the grey areas of ambiguity and room for interpretation in the policy I may have to call in some dodgy break downs to get a real world interpretation of policy.
I may actually start taking note of some of the providers in the gulf and ask them what the norm is and where they wouldn't cover.
As I understand Australia's libel laws from a previous life, truth is not necessarily an absolute defence if the complainant can prove that the defendant deliberately set out to lower the reputation of the other party. So, for example, to state the facts might be OK if the statements could be proven to be true, but if you then added that the other party was, say, a lying and deceitful son of a goat who couldn't be trusted to lie straight in bed and had deliberately set out to do you harm, then the person who said that might be found guilty of libel (in print) or slander (verbal). No doubt a good lawyer could explain that better. So, stick to factual statements.
Back on the topic and the last time I checked I was basically told that if I was on a route that appeared on a map then I was OK. Be interested if that has changed.

[QUOTE=catch-22;2620359]I'm with NRMA but I think I'll can that and get to know Chops....
G'day Chops, wanna be mates?[/QUOTE)
9 Yrs ago my my almost about to pop preggers wife ran up the backside of a BFO Mercedes with old Mediterranean woman and her younger son (Mid 30s) in it. As a side story the son had just been released from hospital after a heart attack. Mumma went off like an Afghani IED and Jr started to clutch at his chest and neck. In short we were insured by NRMA and had the platinum care assistance package with them. Yes this all happened on a major Sydney road but the service was extraordinary even to the point of someone taking my wife to her obstetrics appt. and extending her vehicle hire during the repair period.
I honestly couldn't fault them however, it appears things have changed.
Reading through, it seems like the major issues are with RACV. I too have been with NRMA for a long time and have not had any issues - however the standardss reported above could become contagious and spread to this side of the border so I'm watching with interest.
The current NRMA PDS seems to indicate that they will provide service on any road, including those within national parks and state forests .... what happens when we need to exercise our reciprocal rights in Mexico through RACV I can only go on the prior posts.
Thanks for the heads up guys![]()
This is the reason why the OP has been made.
Many, including myself, have this cover, or type of cover. We do this because we get kinda serious about some long range touring which will take us well and truly "off" the road, (as in bitumen). There are many dirt roads out there that I'm guessing could be debatable as to whether they are "two wheel drive" compatible. Things like corrugations, potholes etc, water perhaps, could be in the mix.
I could be very wrong here, but I thought RACV, RACQ, NRMA etc, were all part and parcel of the same company (?), so if it should be that each have their own rules/guidelines, one would almost have to have separate cover for each state.
We do all this for peace of mind for everything from breaking down, to heaven forbid, and accident. Research research research for this little black duck
The RACV, and when I had it NRMA (never required from memory) were good with me,, did a good job as far as I'm concerned.
No. They are in fact independent organisations. NRMA, for example, is a mutual owned by members, and I suspoect the other state organisations are legally similar. However they all have reciprocal agreements with their interstate counterparts, and possibly in at least some cases where major towns are close to borders, direct contracts witrh subcontractors over the border.
It is a valid concern though, where the terms and conditions vary between organisations between states as to what T & Cs apply in an interstate operation.
The situation is further complicated, although more in appearance than reality in the case of NRMA, by the fact that NRMA share branding and some office services with their former subsidiary, NRMA Insurance, which is now a brand of AIG, a public company.
Hope this helps,
John
