Id say what part of National park dont you understand
    And that is correct

I went into RACV at Fountain Gate today to enquire about Total Care. The woman told me that I would be covered for all breakdowns and I could be towed 100kms. I asked what if there wasn't a garage within 100kms and she said, in that case, they would tow me to the closest one. I asked what if I was in a National Park, and she told me that as long as I was on a 2wd road all was fine. I then told her what had happened to Wardy. She said, that doesn't sound right, so she said she would ring the experts to check. Well, we were both floored by what they said. They said they now will not recover any vehicle that breaks down in a NATIONAL OR STATE PARK EVEN IF THEY BREAKDOWN ON BITUMEN and they also will not recover vehicles on ANY dirt road. I told them that this had to be wrong as I know of people who have been recovered in these areas but they repeatedly told the woman that worked at the counter, that this is how it is now. The poor woman who worked there could only shake her head and apologize saying that no one who worked in the shop knew about this. Everyone was stunned. This will affect so many people, anyone traveling around Australia or even just day trips. I said to the woman, so if I go on a picnic to Lake Eildon (which I'm not sure but thought was a National Park) and break down on the bitumen road, you won't come and help me. She said, well apparently no. So much of Australia is National and State Parks, what about Tassie. I can't believe this, how is it possible that the people who work for RACV, selling this product haven't even been told. RACV Total Care isn't worth the paper its written on. I am seriously considering contacting one of the current affairs programs.

Humm,, just crap really. Leeanne and I were in there last Friday arvo Sandy, and the very nice guy there told us "any time, anywhere",,,
Not that its his fault. The company obviously hasn't told they're staff whats going on,, just like they haven't told they're customers that info either. You would think if the rules change, as a customer, I would be informed via some kind of mail.

We have Land Rover Assist, and will now check out exactly what is and isn't covered by them. They use the RACV as they're courier to the best of my knowledge/experience.

It's pretty pointless paying for this type of cover if in fact they wont do anything for you. Its one of the reasons we went to the Total Care package as we do a lot of miles, and will soon enough be on the road. At this rate, one would be better off having a separate bank account to put some coin in for such an emergency.

Marcus and I were both told we would be covered by the first person we spoke too. It wasn't until I insisted on them ringing the experts in front of me that I got the correct answer. So be aware that the people you deal with on the phone and counter have not been told about this themselves. I would advise that you insist that they contact people higher up who are experts on Total Care. It will be interesting to see what you are told.

I was reading the first couple of posts and saying to myself 'that's not right, they looked after us when...' (3 times I have used the total care package and it has been a boon) but it seems they have changed their ways without notifying anyone. Perhaps it's time for AULRO Assist???

This is very interesting, so thanks for sharing it. When I get home I will ask RACQ for the pdf of the actual coverage, as verbal advice obviously is worthless.
When we did The Simpson 4 years ago I was told we were covered if we needed rescue out there, which may no longer be true (if it ever was).
BTW BIG applause for Chops and Rangieman for going all that way to the rescue. Respect!

I wonder what happens now to Total Care members who live on dirt roads in rural areas? Say...... if their battery dies overnight does this mean they are now on their own because Total Care won't come and help due to the road being dirt.......?
