Rats in the Aircon Fan & Engine Well

I've been out of the country for several weeks so decided to do a bit of Christmas shopping today. It's a bit tropical so I thought I'd take the D1 because its aircon is great & the utes is dead. Got through the gate, turned on the fan & it sounded like a mulcher with dust & craps shooting out the dash vents.
Got home an hour later, after finding nothing at the shops, lifted the bonnet & smiling up at me from the fire wall grate was a little ratty. I was a bit lucky really that nothing caught fire as there were three or four large nests of dried gum leaves throughout the engine bay & one on top of the aux battery.
Now alI have to do is work out how to get at the aircon blower

    Merry Christmas All

I thought the fan blower on those was 4 screws and drop it from under the glove box area.

Get the yard blower Steve, and send it back from whence it came.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

Correct. Very easy job. Here is a thread of mine a while back, when I had a dead mouse in mine.

I will see if I can find a pic and post it up.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Thanks, you blokes. Starting to get at it now. The thread in Daves earlier thread re: the insulation in the fan sounds like what the meece have done to mine as they have pulled some insulation out from the bonnet area & deposited it in various places.

I was on Home Valley Station some years back and Cook and I went driving down to the river where we met the station manager who was having probs. with an atrocious smell coming from his aircon on the troopy.
His tourists passengers were looking very green around the gills.
I lent him a screwdriver and he took various covers off his aircon and there was a very dead very smelly little mouse!
Amazing how something no longer than a couple of inches could stink so bad.

Strewth! At least I only had mineral & vegetable in mine & that pongs bad enough. Hate to have been in your vehicle, mate!
Today I'm working on a way to keep them out. Snce my wife got her new car, the D1 has been relegated to the bottom shed, about 80m from the house & close to bush, so intruders will be a problem.
I'm not keen on poison baiting as we have a lot of raptors, kookas, maggies, goannas etc in residence. Bird mesh under the wiper grill looks the go.
Ian, the blower worked well by my using a 90mm right angle PVC piece over the end.

About 10 yrs ago I parked my old hiace van at a mates farm while we went away for a month. Came back and similar story, turned the fan on and leaves and heaps of other crap blew into the cab along with the smell of mouse pee. I owned that van for 5 more years and never got rid of the smell even 5 yrs later you had a slight mouse **** smell if the fan was on, if you put the heater on it was still vile up till the day it left on a tilt truck.
