I love these sort of comments. While there are some differences around the country, in Melbourne at least and I'm sure plenty of other places around the country BP, Caltex, Mobil and all the independents Diesel comes out of the same place and is identical. Vortex and other 'premium' diesels get a squirt of defoamer into the tanker before the fill begins.
80% of Melbournes entire diesel supply comes from one depot. With the closure of refineries around the country this trend is also being repeated elsewhere.
Caltex fuel is Mobil fuel - Caltex don't run a refinery in Australia. Mobil don't care that they don't have many servos with their branding as they are one of only 2 companies still refining here in Vic, and sell most of their fuel to other retailers anyway...
That is a relief! :D :p
I was beginning to think I must have only owned dud vehicles that couldn't tell when I had fed them a different brand of fuel. :p
None of the vehicles I have owned since about 1966 have performed differently, sounded different, or given different economy when I used a different brand of fuel.
I used to record every drop of petrol and I still record the diesel and the consumption is remarkable consistent. The occasional variation is always the result of some obvious variation in the amount of stop/start driving, amount of time spent in low range, or strong head or tail winds.
I get variations on the same brand when driving conditions vary, but get the same consumption on different brands if the conditions are the same. That must be the fault of my choice of vehicles. :D
Maybe I need to invest in a more modern vehicle or one that can tell what brand of fuel it is using. :p:p:p
Many years ago, our local fuel supplier tried to get us to switch to a new 'premium' diesel on the prime power gensets I was maintaining at the time. We used around 30,000 litres per month. They gave us 2 full batches at the same price as standard and promised us we would see an improvement in economy. After putting over 50,000 litres of the stuff through the gensets, I ran the fuel burn to KWH produced - it was identical - and I mean EXACTLY the same. :D.
It's simply a marketing ploy - they say it runs 'cleaner' and will clean away deposits left from 'poorer quality' fuels. I always counter this with 'what, you've been supplying me sub standard fuel?' No, no, no! they will answer, but they have no other comeback.
Its called Cognitive Dissonance or the Placebo Effect - the need to justify to ones self that you have made the right decision.
Certainly in the medical area no problem with that with some proven results and I guess if you think one fuel is better than an other there is no issue as well.
If you want to give the arsehole fuel companies even more of your hard earned so you feel good about it, then yes, be my guest.
Woolworths has announced it has entered into binding agreements to facilitate the sale of its 527 Woolworths owned fuel convenience sites and 16 committed development sites to BP. Subject to satisfaction of the transaction conditions Woolworths and BP will enter into a long term strategic partnership.

Woolworths Rewards members will continue to earn one point for every dollar they spend at Caltex Woolworths^, including on fuel and in store. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/im...2016/12/97.jpg And when they shop at Woolworths supermarkets, their 4 cents* per litre Caltex Woolworths discount will be stored on their card. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/im...2016/12/97.jpg
Get's confusing when you go around buying fuel, an independant i saw the other day was 8cents cheaper than the nearby woolies, Woolies advertises Vortex, and charges a premium, but the nearby indy servo has no labels on their pump. So is he selling the dirty diesel?
Some one told me there is Truck diesel and car diesel, I don't see any pumps that specifically say for Trucks only. Assuming diesel injectors are so fine, you would want to ensure your diesel is clean regards less of truck or other vehicle.
7/11 stores have ''Special Diesel'' on their sign poles. Special Diesel? is this a diesel that's on special or is it some really good diesel?
