Current road access to Lawn hill NP

We really wanted to make it into Lawn hill but thinking it's now way too late.
Just thought I'd ask here for anyone in the area as we have had many mixed responses from people around Normanton and info centres are closed, it sounds like it doesn't need too much rain to cut it off.
Thinking we may have to give it a miss this time around.
Currently in Normanton and heading to Alice springs so could take the southern access roads if less chance of being cut off.

As at yesterday the Burketown Shire Road Report had the road to Centaury & Lawn Hill open to 4WD high Clearance.

But, we have had rain overnight & a couple of showers this morning.

My advice - Don't go there!
You may well get in but won't be able to get back out.

This time of year the weather can turn on a dime & start belting down for weeks. We have had regular rain for the past week so all creeks & rivers will not need much to rise further. Around here if it lets go you are where you are for days, weeks, months.

The best time to visit Lawn Hill is as soon after the "Wet" as you can. Cooler & the country still looks fantastic.

Thanks for the great info, that confirms it for me as I know you've been up in Doomadgee for a long time now.

You could always go the long way and stick to the bitumen to get from Normanton to Gregory. Then head from Gregory into Adel's Grove/Lawn Hill. We've had plenty of rain here in Isa but the rivers aren't flowing. I think the ground is still soaking up the water. It might just be a case of keeping an eye on the weather and if heavy rain is on the forecast cut your trip into Lawn Hill early and escape on the bitumen from Gregory down to Cloncurry. The road between Cloncurry - Isa rarely closes and is defnitely open at the moment.

    Cheers,

    Danial.

We are in Karumba at the moment and plan on heading off tomorrow or the next day. No real plan just heading towards Southern WA for the wet.

    Head Cloncurry way.
It is getting increasingly difficult to get through this way.
They closed the Doomadgee - Burketown road due to the Gregory being at .3 or .4, not high but it flows fast & is a mongrel crossing. The Nicholson is rising & the road West is closed.

I would avoid going to Gregory, it is seal all the way but if you have to get off on the single lane & you have a trailer it can be very scary when wet.

Go to Mt Isa and get some lead in your system.http://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
