William Christopher was also the parent of Ned Christopher who has a diagnosis of Autism. This led William Christopher to write a book in 1989 called Mixed Blessings.
The Amazon review of the book accessed January 4, 2017 from [ame]https://www.amazon.com/Mixed-Blessings-William-Christopher/dp/0687270847/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1483496645&sr=8-1&keywords=Mixed+blessing+william+christopher[/ame] states that:
As "Father Mulcahy,"William Christopher created one of the funniest, most beloved characters in television history. Yet away from the public eye, he and his wife were living a private drama. In raising two sons, John and Ned, they came to the painful realisation that Ned was not developing normally. "Mixed Blessings" is the Christophers' unforgettable story of life with this very special boy.
A husband, a parent and an Autism advocate has passed - RIP
Kind Regards
Lionel
