Hardly the future or a new concept - they've been around for over 15 years - Airtrax developed them and held the patent. They are about twice the price of a standard fork and a maintenance nightmare by all accounts which is why they didn't take off. I think Airtrax went under some time ago. Maybe the patent has expired so others are joining in now - might make them cheaper.
