For those that like slow TV, this is a cracker. Great scenery. Had it on this evening for the last 3 hours. 👍

For those that have been following the progress of Union Pacific restoring 4014 ‘Big Boy’ over the last few years will like this - she made it onto the mainline for testing yesterday. Awesome to see and now the worlds largest operating steam train.

Yep a impressive loco. Now they have the biggest up and running they should get the fastest up and running. The big boy can top out at eighty mile an hour. They have a steam train that was fined for doing one hundred and fifty miles an hour, now that`s pretty fast. Due the technicality that is was not a official speed test the English claim the fastest speed. The big boys little brother the challenger is also a impressive loco. The reason they where working into the night is a steam train rally coming up. The have been pushing hard to get the Big boy ready. Will be some great footage out of that rally with big boy and I think a challenger double heading a train.

Not sure if this has been posted before - if so, I did it.
Many of you should watch it :)

I saw 4014 when it was a static display at the Pomona rail museum just before it was moved up to Cheyenne yards for restoration. 4014 was regarded as the easiest restoration of the surviving Big boys as it was the most complete and original. There is one on display in a park in Cheyenne and another in a park in Omaha. You look at the location in Omaha and wonder just how the hell they got that huge thing in there. In Cheyenne they built a ramp from the rail ine over a four lane highway, laid temporary track and rolled it in. Then tore up the track, dug up the ramp and re-opened the highway.
I hope to still be active enough to ride behind it when UP start using it on excursions.
This is nuts - not nearly enough fire suppression available even though they are dynoing 2000hp engines.
Even crazier is that they got to work to get the truck going again for the next days event.
