Brisbane people would regularly see it out and about towing busted trams back to the workshops and pulling derailed trams back onto the lines. Gardner engine.

One of my first 4WD's was a Nissan G60.
It Was as tough as nails and extremely reliable/capable But it was also bloody uncomfortable, However back then there wasn't much around that could do the same work AND be comfortable to drive as well.

These early Patrols were tried in my industry when they first came out, but were never adopted to any extent. A few companies stuck to Landrovers, most went straight to Landcruisers. One company offered to sell me one of their Patrols that everyone refused to use for less than half its new price at three months old and 5,000miles. I was never clear on what the problems were, but got the impression that too many things broke too easily.

Scammell had a patented item called beam bogie axles used on those off road and recovery models. They had a full 24" of vertical movement at the wheels.

They didn't flex much, (anti roll bars front and rear didn't help)
Dad used to reckon they are the closest thing to a tractor you could buy that was road registerable.

The only thing that really went against them (and the Jeep CJ) was they were only a 3 speed 'box vs the 4 speed g/box of the Series and Land Cruiser.
    And rust
