I can remember back in the 70's when they still mined mineral sands up at Double Island Point heading home on the Monday midday & there was a white bubble in the sand below high-water mark & everyone was driving over it, it turned out to be a new Toyota L/C wagon. It had been there since Friday night. Barge operator told us he had caught the last barge over Friday night & was told to wait until the morning to head up to the point because the tide was 1/2 in. He was driving rite at the bottom of the dunes & hit one of the holes the miners had dug full of soft sand & water so was like quicksand. I had a mate who worked at the State Gov Workshop & he was telling me about this idiot who had taken a new L/C up the beach that got swamped which had tyre tracks over the roof that they were going to have to rebuild because the insurance wouldn't pay to fix / replace it.Quote:
