Archerfield, when I was flying out of there in the 1960s was an "all over" grass field, except for a sealed E-W runway on the south edge. You landed and took off directly into wind By 1970 it had marked grass strips, and you had to use the active strip.Quote:

My father says they were flying at a Battle of Britain air show at Archerfield in the fifties which would seem right
A few were purchased in the late fifties by a survey company for the mining industry. The Mosquito was selected as being wooden it would not affect the instruments being used for the survey work
They had a lot of trouble gaining permission and maintaining it to fly them in Australia. This was due to the relevant department considering that the RAAF records would not contain information that reflected the true flying of the aircraft and associated potential airframe damage
