Certainly a shortage of drivers that can actually drive but I do see heaps of steering wheel attendants that have licenses and can mostly make a truck go forward sort of at times. I am constantly amazed by how many drivers seem to **** up backing into our premises at work. Our own fleet includes a Semi and 2 twin steer rigids with trailers and no one - not even myself (I don't have a license but move the trucks around the yard) can back any of them in first time every time - driveway, road and yard are large - you can turn a semi around in the front yard, yet so many take ages to get a vehicle in here - I've seen more than one semi take 15 plus minutes and dozens of attempts. How they get a license is beyond me. The workshop and yard is technically drive through for a semi but we don't allow this now for visiting trucks as too many have cleaned up the roller door at the back making the turn out as it is a bit tight. Had a standard tilt in the other day that drove out and cleaned the roller door frame up with the overhang of the tilt - not sure how as they had a tonne of room but then blamed us for the damage to their truck...Quote:

Not sure about pay there but here in the UK they filled the ‘shortage’ of drivers with people from elsewhere who would work for less. They were bus in bus out to home country. Were not earning enough to pay for a night in truck stops. COVID they stopped coming. Suddenly drivers wages went up a lot as there was no one to do the steering bit of the logistics operation. Prior even a UK driver was earning less than someone flipping buggers in a well known global brand of fast food
