What was the mechanical dial thing under the dash of the old rover cars,75,90, etc?

From my bad memory it let the car freewheel at times?

Yes, freewheeling control. Used on P4 Rover cars. In fact, Faulls the Land Rover agent in Perth, lent me such a car while my Land Rover was being prepared after keeping my trade in.

On the P3 (48/49), allows one to change gears without using the clutch.

I wonder why he didn't wish to walk the centre of the O? Nice job though, I doubt I would amuse myself with a Mower.

It obviously wasn't meant for QANTAS or Virgin passengers.
