I have restored a number of old tractors, and years ago I was talking to an old mate farmer, he said it was routine to dig a hole in the ground, simply drive over it with the tractor and just let the oil go.

He also told me the best way of removing a tractor tyre stuck to the cast steel wheels was to build a fire over the wheel, let it burn out overnight and cut off the beads with wire cutters in the morning.

Things were so much simpler then ;-)
