Yes, no hands free to hold a weapon. I can't say I'd like to climb the ladder when a vessel is moving at speed. Fall and you'd be dead.

HM Royal Marines can do anything. They are Super Soldiers, White Sun Helmets not withstanding. My guess is there is an UZI or an Automatic tucked into the hand grips.

They'd be my choice if I ever needed Rescuing. If I had a choice, that is.

They could lessen the sitting duck syndrome if they approached at night, and with multiple boarders you could possibly give each other some covering fire. I’m sure tactics will catch up with the tech if they really want to use it.

If at night then only if the things were fitted with Navigation Lights, Landing Lights & a Red Strobe Beacon.
