So what did I do? Being tre tre generous beyond belie,f I loaned it to an ex RAAF Lanc crew member client of mine. Never had time to even note my contact details in it. Time went on & I think he probably died, house cleared, no name or phone no. so bye bye book.

I had it for so short a time so never even recorded the title of it. Have you ever tried to locate a book that you don't know the title of? Bloody difficult I can assure you. Searches turn up thousands but you never recognise the title.

Only in special circumstances will I lend a book these days & only to special people. Then they have to forcibly be fitted with Prison GPS Bracelets.
All my books now I stamp my name & contact details in side the front & back covers . Have lost too many LR books over the years . The last guy who borrowed one took me 5years to get back , kept telling me he had put in the post time after time . Trouble was I live in Brisbane & he moved to Rockhampton . Ended up telling him to order a new one & get it derived to me, mine turned up a week later.

    Thanks.
A good idea, but the only drawback I can see is that some folk would think those details were in a "Market Sale" of S/H books. But if it just gets just one good book back to you I suppose it is worth it.
I have bought books in the past which contained details & thought they may have been from a Deceased estate but were they Kosher????

    EDIT.
Some of the inscription details were either a Father giving his son a book, or Vice versa. Some were a tad touching.

Best thing is to become a hard bastard & don't lend them in the first place.

I recall a saying from somewhere "To lend a book is to lose a Friend" but I have never worked out which friend it was,
    The Borrower, or the Book.

A pity we don't have a bare backside smiley here or I would give you a double moony for that, Ian.
