Aunt had a MK1 from new until was no longer driving. Was bought new for her by her husband. He had a terminal illness and was organising things for her so life would be as easy as possible once was he gone

Bought the Jaguar as considered it would last a life time and she would never have to deal with a car dealer who were all crooks who would rip off a lady

He was right about lasting a life time as she drove it up to the late nineties and never needed to buy another car. This was rural Queensland so it did not have an easy life

In the 70s I had come from an FC Holden to an MGB. One night I was driving my sisters car when a car ran a stop sign. I braked, thinking I would hit him. I couldn't understand why the red light came on on the dash. The car was a manual, and it had just stopped before I had thought to push the clutch. For the time, those brakes were just phenomenal.

In the 1960s I was sometimes driving my brother's Citroen ID19. You had to keep an eye on how close the one behind was in traffic when applying the brakes - the combination of power (not power assist) brakes, with discs and zero travel brake pedal closer to the floor than the accelerator, together with the braking effort distributed according to the load between front and back, meant that, as the rear lifted under heavy braking, the towbar went through the radiator of the following Holden.

Which led to much delays and exchange of details. Usually the Citroen was undamaged, although on one occasion the tongue of the towbar got bent.
