    💥, only bigger. .303 can replace fusible links, but can have similar issues.

    Based on personal observation and knowledge............ leaving a bogged diesel vehicle idling in wet sand only makes it settle deeper into the mire.

    A mate of mine made that mistake with a week old troopy on a beach in Vic and it got swamped by the tide. He said it was sad when the lights went out as night gathered and it burbled away.

    Yes he was a public servant doing a gov job and yes it was the only vehicle left in the Fowles auctions yard at the end of the auctions on the following Friday.

    Yep. These type of medium/fast flowing, freshwater, sandy creeks are particularly hungry, if one stops in one. Over the years, I have retrieved several vehicles from a number of them, where the driver thought it would be a good idea to carry out an underbody rinse, by driving in and stopping. The sand just erodes from around the tyres and in seconds, they're too deep to drive out. 30 seconds and you're close to bellied out. I lean toward this theory, with this bloke. I just hope he got out ok. (Not my pic)

    They don't call them "the shifting sands" as a poetic description. Gat a 90 seriously stuck in Lake Illawarra once ( don't ask, but it involved another vehicle, nets, prawns* and lotsa beer ). Same thing, kinda. Inflow from a creek.

    * Imaginary, as it happens.

    Yes. I got stuck in the 2a on one occasion in the creek between here and the village. I called my neighbor whose place the crossing is in and he pulled me out. About six months later I pulled him out of the same spot - he was in his brand new side by side (whatever you call it). The day after it was delivered. I think he forgot to put it in four wheel drive and by the time he realised, it was too late.

    Hi,
    On a West coast beach, (Trial Harbour) watching a boat being launched via trailer and old Fergie with dual wheels. A nicely choreographed operation, they had obviously done this many times, but why risk turning the motor off while parked axle deep on an ocean beach? I wondered.
    Turns out the engine vibrations would sink the wheels very quickly. Battery failure was much less of a risk.
    Cheers

    Never mind the repair...

    ...I want to know where he gets his cut off wheels.

    Hmm,yes,Eli Ck on Fraser ate a brand new series 3,driven by my Father,1973.Not a great day,or the few days following. The vehicle stalled half way across and wouldnt start.
    No one around to help in those days.Eventually, late the next day,it was hauled out by an ex army Blitz from Happy Valley.

    Anyway, rebuilt at Annand and Thompson, and back on the road a few weeks later, from then onwards they called it the Yellow Submarine.
    It was modded as well, long range fuel tanks, water tanks, winch, off engine drive, brush bars, bull bar, rack, shovel and axe,one on each front guard.

    That creek has drowned more than a few vehicles over the years.

    It is a pity we can't find the photos of the incident anywhere these days.
