Bought another Rangie- Must be a glutton for punishment!!!

    G'day,

Well, it's finally time to reveal the new beast. I just picked up an 87 Hi-Line for $4K today and I am rapt in the damn thing. I'll start at the begenning...

I wasn't planning on upgrading at this stage, but the 83 was becoming a handfull with weekend after weekend doing work to it. I had taked it off-road for a run a couple of times but deep down I wasn't happy with the vehicle at all. Thye 4.4 was a great engione, the auto was okay but there were still room for improvment.

So I grabbed the trading post and without any intention to buy, looked at a short list of 4. The first one was oaky, 86 hi-Line but it was manual and I hate changing gears It had LPG on it as well, but I don't drive it all the time so fuel costs aren't a big issue with me.

The second one I had been familiar with as I had looked at it a couple of months ago. Rough and ready, but had a ripper 3.5 that unfoertunatyly had too much blow-by and required a rebuild. Not feasable at this stage, I am sick of qworjking on Land Rovers at the moment.

The third one, a 90 model withh leather, 3.9 and generally not too bad. Took a good look around the floors, all good til I got to the firerwall which had some rather disturbing rust. I personally won't buy a Rangie with rust again after the 83 needed some work in this department.

Now the last one, and the one I bought. an 87, auto, 222K on the clock, dark blue, neat tidy and well looked after which is getting harder to find on Rangies of this vintage. The 3.5 is okay, gutless off the mark as per standard, but will sit on 110 kms all day and not work too hard. Drives well for an 18 year old Rangie, NO RUST at all compared to the other 3 I looked at. Got the price down to $4K and we had a deal.

I also had sold the 83 for $2K to a mate of my brother-in-laws, and I had the rest in the bank so it worked out well. Still got my maxi's and so forth (will be fitted ASAP) and some new tyres as well (left the 32's on the 83 Rangie when I sold it as they're half worn).

I will take some pics and post them on here tomorrow. See how long this one will last

My bloody oath that is. The key is to be patient and you will get a good one. There's plenty of crap Rangies out there and can trap the unwary including myself 8O

The fact of the matter was spend more on Thomas for very little gain or buy something a bit better which was worth spending dosh on.

There's a few 'gremlins' in the EFI system that need to be sorted out but that's really it. Mostly it will need improvments.

Oh, the exhaust on it sucks, needs a free-flow muffler and a 2 1/2 inch pipe, could be one of the 'firsts' as far as mods go
