    Source for Type Symbol

    Hello All,

Using the expression... "you never know your luck in the big city" ... I am posting on AULRO in the hope I might find some answers to a couple of questions I have about a symbol.

I have circled some symbols in the text attached below. I have to somehow reproduce them to use in a Word document.

Can anyone let me know what this symbol is called and what does it represent?

Also, whereabouts in Word can I go other than "Insert Symbol" to find and insert it into my document?

The source is some commentary about Wittgenstein's Philosophical Investigations (1953) that I accessed January 25, 2017 from Commentary on PHILOSOPHICAL INVESTIGATIONS: Article Content | Academic Publishing Wiki | Fandom powered by Wikia.

A number of other sources citing Wittgenstein's work use this same symbol. - whatever it means?

Your assistance would be most appreciated.

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

    Called a Section Symbol..

    Code is ALT + 0167

    Or in Word:
Click on "Insert" in the toolbar at the top of the screen, so that the Insert ribbon appears.
Click on "Symbol" all the way to the right.
    Select "More Symbols."
    Select the "Special Characters" tab.
Select the "Section" symbol by clicking on it.
    Click on the "Insert" button.

    Hello Tombie,

Thank you for the identification and the explanation of how to copy the symbol into my document. It saved me heaps of time because I would have been roaming through lots of pages to find it. Especially when I did not know what the symbol stood for. Makes it hard to search for something. A symbol for "section" - aye!

    Kind Regards

    EDIT:
DAMNIT. It shows the correct symbol in the post preview, but it changes it to "?" when the post is submitted.
    Lame.
How will I ever manage to slip a heavy-metal umlaut intop normal conversation now?!

    Hello Toxic,

The system here does not like the French accent over the "e" either. It turns them into a question mark automatically so Harre sans accent becomes Harr? Even when it is copied from elsewhere and pasted into a message. I will give it another test ....

Looks good in draft ... Harr? -

wait until I press the send button...

Sometime later .... Oh nothing has changed after all...

Small things to endure compared to the overall goodness of the site

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

Your Windoze computer should also have a "Character Map". Use your computer's Search function to find it and create a shortcut to your desktop. The characters within it will work just about everywhere with the exception of AULRO.
