IT help needed - no ethernet driver

Hoping some of the IT crowd on here can help me. I have a PC I built with a ASROCK H61M/U3S3 motherboard.

I've been having all sort of problems with my internet connection, and so I decided to eliminate wifi and connect a modem directly to my PC via ethernet.

I'm running Windows 7, 64 bit. In device manager it shows the Ethernet Controller under other devices, but says in Properties that no drivers are installed.

The utility for finding/installing drivers, both on the computer, and the internet (I'm connected to the internet through a 4G hotspot running on my phone) hasn't been able to find/install drivers.

I went to the ASROCK page for the motherboard to source drivers ie.
    ASRock > H61M/U3S3
and have attempted to instal, but get an error message "Installer cannot find AR81 Atheros family ethernet controller on your system".

I've tried disabling, and then re-enabling the ethernet controller, but still no luck installing drivers.

    What am I doing wrong?

Have you got the cdrom that came with the motherboard as that should have all of the drivers on it.

Sometimes motherboards can come in different versions and have different options.

Also try installing the inf driver first as that may help identifying drivers.

If that doesn't work try uninstalling the device and drivers and try re-detecting.

Try using the one directly from the Qualcomm(Atheros) site.

    HERE:

Had a look at the specs of the Arock mainboard and it's using the AR8151 Lan chip, so look for that listing on the left hand side and then across to the Win7 64bit download arrow.

I had a quick peek and the driver that Qualcomm provide is version 2.1.0.21 from 2013, whereas the one on the Asrock site is two years earlier and version 1.0.0.45 .. ie. a much older version.

    hopefully that works for 'ya.

Thanks, got there in the end. Not very obvious what to do with the .inf file (which isn't part of the download, but appears in the html) and the files contained in the download - but once I copied the code and created the .inf file and put the other files in the same folder, pointed the device manager to that folder to find driver files, and it worked. Trial and error seemed to get me there. Thanks again.
