As the guys said, it looks as though something has hit it and weakened it at that point. Its unfortunate when stuff breaks but we will use our landies for their intended purpose, and on the odd occasion it is our turn to suffer the problems.
Why ring B Davis, was it an aftermarket shaft? Matt

We inspected the shaft and found no evidence of a dent, and if you look at the pic all that clearance is the begining of the climb up the rock ledge and the cross member is resting on the ledge this where it broke i didn't get up far enough for the shaft to hit anything.
If i hit the ledge with the shaft then yes i would take that but that didn't happen, it snapped at the bottom not halfway up.

as far as i could see the shaft did not hit anything, if it did there would be
a sign of black paint on the rock. i looked before and after we moved the
disco, nothing, only skid marks from the cross member.
and the video evidence backs up the photo, shaft didnt get to the next
shelf to be damaged on.
plain and simple US bit of shaft.
anyway DW climbed straight up no prob's 8)

I don't think my Freelander would have done very well climbing those rocks.![]()

So Baz,
I'm pressumming you got your maxi in the rear and that the axles are as strong as ever
And you went to a double uni rear propshaft, and took out what you thought was the weakest link the rubber donut 8O
Was it a new or second hand propshaft?
Still does make for a great story and photo ![]()

New according to Bruce Davis, he imports them from LR in the UK and are a genuine LR Disco 1 prop shaft 8O it would be interesting to see one from the same model D1, which is i believe a 94 to 99.Originally posted by seqfisho

It would be interesting also to see if anyone has left there Rotoflex coupling on and not had a failure because as yet not even a mark on the rotoflex from using it without the locker.

I replaced my rubber donut last week - 94 disco 1 update - car has only been used on the highway and done only 100,000k - old donut had huge cracks in it and would have broken with any decent load.
I suspect that with any decent workout, the donuts would not last - I think these should have been listed as a service item to be replaced every 60,000k or so and more often if the car is used in heavy duty environments.

Hi
This link has some interesting pictures of broken prop shafts.
http://www.4xshaft.com/
It was on another thread a few months back.
Forget all that, it's easier just to link to the pic.
Cheers
Simon
