AT RESTToday I called in to SCA to get a spare wheel bearing kit for my boat trailer. There were 3 brands on offer Trojan, Timkin and SCA ( super cheap brand )
The SCA were $1 dearer than the Timkin ones but had a split pin where the Timkin ones didn't.
The SCA ones said made in China on the race and looked like a cheap quality through the blister pack.
The Timkin kit had MADE IN USA on the bearing race. So naturally I purchased the Timkin ones,
I have has very bad experiences with failures of the Chinese rubbish that is offered at some boating cetres in the past , so always go Timkin.
On paying for them I asked the check out girl why the SCA chinese ones were dearer than the superior quality Timkin ones, she go pretty stroppy and said she didn't price the items, so she didn't know. Sorry I asked, I should of realised she was just the check out person and not a part experts they make out to be.
SCA must be making a killing on the price of these Chinese bearings if people are so inclined to buy them.

You did well. Timkin were a brand name long before any of the other rubbish was even thought of.
Their stuff maybe alright for horse and carts or rickshaws but I wouldn't trust it on much else.
Of course some smarty pants is bound to pop up now and say what a wonderful experience he's had from all his Asian made trinkets.....

But home brand made in China versus Branded Timkin USA you would think they would be cheaper in price not dearer, A split pin in the Chinese made one would not justify the pricing.

SubscriberI try to use Timkin in my trailer but I have to question really if it matters on a boat trailer .
My guess is that most boat trailer bearings die because of water immersion long before they would wear out.
I use boat trailer seals on mine, but usually find a slight bit of dust on the inner grease, and have found one kill red bearing from water just from no usage of the trailer for 12 months.
Look on eBay and you will find cheap ones.

Boat (& trailer) hire business I knew last Century used VERY el-cheapo bearings...and replaced them every second hire.

Cheap insurance and he got a discount for buying in bulk...
Never had any problems or failures.
