    Big engines small cars

Years ago a friend of mine brought a brand new TC Cortina with 250 6 cylinder engine. Drove it home and put a 302 Australian V8 in it. Later on, I became involved and put a 351 modified v8 in it as well as a 9 inch diff. One of the best cars I have driven, if you can drive a car to its limitations but its best bits is some times its limitations. A wild car to drive fast. not many could keep up .

There were plenty of V8's "shoehorned" into LC and LJ Torana's too!
One local example had a 308 in it, and it went like a jet in a tin can!
Tight fit in the engine bay though, I don't think he could even change the spark plugs.

    Cheers, Mick.

I wonder how many of those there are in Australia - particularly in SA.

Years ago when I was working at Tilbrooks Brake Service in Angas Street, one of the mechanics there, a bloke named Kevin Newlands, imported a 2 door 1964 Nova from the states in two separate containers (basically the car was cut in half in the US and imported as two separate shipments of "parts" to get around the import laws at the time.

The car was welded back together when it got to Adelaide, and done up like new in a body / upholstery shop. It was painted metallic black with a cream vinyl roof and (I think) a cream / white interior. Came out looking brilliant. Under the bonnet was a worked 396, but I can't remember what transmission it had in it (it was an auto). Was the only left hand drive vehicle I can ever remember driving in Australia.

At about the same time, I had a black Pontiac Laurentian. Not in the same go fast league as the Nova though - about the size of a small barge and powered by a 283 and a powerglide.
    Cheers .........

Some of these "combinations" may be quite good in a straight line, but I would suggest, not too flash going around corners!

Not may people realised the motor from the 600 grosser was shoehorned in.
Was great fun leaving the lights with the likes of the older falcon GTs and Monaro 350's when I had it

My brother is the mechanic in our family. When he was a young`n he had a ford Anglia that he cut and moved the fire wall back. Then he fitted a 186S into it. From the stories he tells it went rather well.
