and a lot of people agree.
I used to love the 104" wheelbase on my old Jeep CJ6, and I reckon If I ever got around to making a purpose built off roader, (at least 35" tyres) I'd be building it on a 100-104" wheelbase.

I also agree. The project I'm building now will come out at about 100-104" I think thats the best compromise, but its important not to lift it too much.

The only probs I've found so far is when you bend the steering in a 130! Lots of fun trying to turn them. And the floating thing. Versatility of the ute is great and they are to big to mistake for a normal tradies ute.

George130 - how did you bend the steering? Is it worth fitting a front 'bash plate' and diff guard?

I did it being stupid at aces. Tried to turn away from a rut going down hill and slid into it while on full wheel lock ops: . The tyres bend the drag link. I have a bash plate diff guards and the poxy standard steering guard.
it was one of those things a novice just needs to learn.
Good guards are worth it just to stop you doing to much damage but like most things knowing what you are doing is even better.

Personally I think the MAIN problem with the 130's is the turning circle. It would be a real bastard to get aqround some of the bush tracks / sharp turns in places I tend to have ended up lately.

However if I was up for a round Australia tour a 130 HCPU would be my choice !!

Mind you Trev's 90 is very nice, too.........
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

On our Simpson Trip, I struggled to keep the 110 in the tracks of the other vehicles when things got tight.

Thanks for all the input. I reckon I am heading towards a 110, and keeping the amount of gear I take to more of a minimum.

I have a rooftop tent (ShippShape) which takes care of the sleeping arrangements, it's just all the other stuff I like to cart around that would have been simpler in a 130.

Next thing is to look at some sliding drawer setups so we can get to the gear in the back easily.
