Question

Mine can only legaly use 7"
Questionable...but will only be on for short occasional 4x4 trips where the 35's are needed.
yep but if its illegal then its illegal.
its when you going bush that problems happen...
mine is far from legal in some areas...
i've pulled the back seats out.... illegal...
but i keep rims, tyres and suspension withing legal limits as if something was to go wrong then i would like the insurance company or vicroads to not blame the changes...
if you were doing 80kmh, a kid jumped out and you hit it..
if you had legal wheels and tyres and suspension then you cant get blamed for them. if the back seat has been pulled or you have 2 many lights on the roof then how does that cause the accident???
But if your running tyres rated for offroad use only or 10" rims...... then they would blame you right away.. if your lift is more than 2"???? guess what...
The accident was caused by illegal tyres and suspension not designed for road use...
It sux as the kid might have steped out 10 meters in front of you. No car on earth will stop from 80kmh to 0 in 10 meters... none i know of....
i just make sure that i wont be the one they point fingers at... well i try not to...
When i worked for the panel beaters many years back i learnt that insurance companys will do anything to not pay out and will blame "X" just to get out of it. My missus used to work for AAMI, now there is a comany that has tricks up their sleeve to not pay anyone out....
My advice...
Find out if you can do it legally 1st, then lift it, mod it and go nuts.
7" band on a 110 is what i was told was max.
Disco would be 8" and 130 might be 8"
Yes my Simex's are not legal on the rims i use as the offset is wrong, so i cant talk. but id argue as they are 7" bands... and they keep within the flares.
the Government wants excuses to close parks and ban 4wd activity. we all cross the boundrys on the Tread lightly policy.
i just as bad as the rest. But last time i was out 9 of us were stopped by the Boys in Blue.....
4 4wd's were sent home and given a "Canary" to put in a cage.
Mr Plod walked around mine, looked at it and commented on how neat it was then went off to pick on a Toyo. Lucky for most of us 2 guys on unregoed bikes came screaming past so the boys headed of after them.
Enough ranting from me...

Very good points, but if the road traffic branch can not find a defect on your vehicle to attribute the collission too they will just get you for failing to pay due care. Look at the poor tow truck operator who was found guilty after swerving to miss one drunk who staggered out on to the road at night and then ran over another who was passed out on the other side of the road dressed all in black. Our justice system is warped and the the onus needs to go back on responsability for ones actions, eg it was the drunks that caused the above accident not the driver. He actually drove defensivelly and tried to avoid a situation he did not cause.
