That's really sad. Is there no alternative? Might she settle if given more time?
Tomorrow I have to have a task to do that I am not looking forward to, that is having to put a beautiful old dog put down. This dog belongs to my brother in law who has just gone to Nepal with his family 2 weeks ago and they will be away for another month The dog is a greyhound she has fretted so much from being left that she has lost weight from not eating and broken out in saws .
I have never had any interest in greyhounds but in 3 days she has proved to be a wonderful pet that loves human company and eager to please she is so soft and gentle and very obedient. She should have been put down several days ago according to the vet but because I don’t own her I cannot authorise it so I have kept her sedated Its taken me two days to contact my brother in law then a full day to get things sorted . I am not looking forward to tomorrow I will feel for her but the wife has become very attached to her

I agree. Don't rush it. Fuss over her some more. We have plenty of experience with dogs in our family, they have been shared around when some of us had to go away, they have fretted, but have always come good.

You could try putting a jumper or jeans your brother in law owns in her bed or wear it yourself. I've heard this can help to get her into a different state of mind.

Can also try taking her to a dog park whilst other dogs are around and regularly catch up with the same crew so she finds some mates.
My 58kg poodle just spent the longest time away from me at dog camp while I did a lobster job in SA. 10 nights. Usually when I do research stuff it's 4 nights at the max.
I always leave him there with a stinky old windcheater that is always on his back seat of the 2 door.
Picked him up two days ago, no crap behaviour, about a kilo overweight and he was quite happy and obedient. He's insanely smart.
I could tell that he'd spent a lot of time with the stinky windcheater because it was plastered with his hair. Mega security blanket.
Catch 22's advice re: clothing article smelling of owner is right on the money.
HTH, DL
Yesterday morning all her leg joints started to swell and this morning the fur had come off leaving swollen red lump some were weeping, she could hardly walk, she was in more pain and it would cost $1000 for a biopsy so I had no option but to comply with my brother in law wishes.
Thanks to every body for your advice and words
That is gut wrenchingly sad. A dog that died for devotion and you having been charged with the roll of Executioner, For want of a kinder word. I feel for you and admire you courage.
Cheers, Billy.
