You can get cheaper cruise control kits than that, there are kits below $500 available. Matt
Latest OL has article on Davis's cruise control, overdrive and chip/ intercooler upgrade for Defenders.Cruise control for $800 sounds like it may be worth further investigation.![]()

Yeh, that other mob has a good reputation, name escapes me, maybe they dont do one for Fenders and Davis is filling the niche.

A friend just put a cruise control in his TD5 Defender, I don't know which brand, but it was about $800. Cheaper units have a Vaccuum actuator that works on the throttle cable (I have one of these on my Rangie), but the TD5 needed something that would drive the ECU in the absence of a throttle cable. He did have some surging problems initially, and they replaced the unit and it now works fine. I'd find out more, but he's of Land Rovering.
mmmmm vacuum operatorated cruise-control for throttle-cable based vehicles... that's what I need for my 1994 300Tdi Defender :-)
Fitted a "Command Cruise" one to my County about ten years ago. Can't remember the price but it was less than $100. Only problem has been when the wire to the speed pickup at the back of the front prop shaft came loose and caught on the U-joint. Otherwise no problems. Fitted it myself in a few hours.
A relative of mine has recently fitted same brand to his Falcon, had endless problems with it that eventually were traced to a faulty vacuum actuator, which they replaced.

I have just put the Autron "fly by wire" in my TD5. My old TDi had a Liteon Cruise fitted to it by myself. Worked OK but needed tuning. (dip switches in the unit set the pulses per klm to make it behave correctly).Originally posted by Michael2

I second the Command recommedation for cable throttles.Originally posted by JDNSW

I've 3 in my cars since 1995 & my dad has 2 in his Falcons. Very good units but closer to $200 nowadays.
I'd imagine they'd be good in a diesel with a vacuum pump. They lose a bit of speed on hills in the RR when it loses engine vacuum - a quick pull back to 3rd in the auto fixes that though.
