My neighbor put me in my place today.

I have fantastic neighbor's,they are all retirees or young couples and they all know I'm a fitter, because of this rarely a week goes by when I'm not fixing a leaking tap of putting a door handle on.Anyway next door I have Fred and Ursula,Fred is 80 and German,Ursula is mid 70's from Switzerland and they have a '98 1HZ Troopy that had a worn out starter. They got quoted an obscene amount of money from Toyota to replace it so I bought an original Bosch through my contacts for $210 and fitted it this morning, that's when I received the wrath from Ursula.I'll tell you I'm not little,I'm 6'1'' and 100kgs but Ursula, all 60kg wringing wet had me shutting up,they knew I would not except money for fitting it so she waited till I had my arms full with tools and slipped a couple of notes in my pocket, when I tried to decline,I did it because they asked me,not for money but I'll tell you the sight of her storming towards me with a finger pointing straight at me demanding I except it is something I won't forget,it's making me laugh as I type it.It's funny how submissive grown men are when dealing with little old ladies who won't take no for an answer, next week I'm doing the water pump and timing belt, when she asked I've I want a coffee it'll be yes every time. Pat

I know the feeling. You just reminded me that I have to go see my aunty today and do a couple of odd jobs for her! Both her and my uncle are over 80 so I do as much as possible for them. I often get yelled at when I don't accept any money from them for the bits and pieces I buy when doing their odd jobs. It seems that "I didn't spend any money, it was just lying around the house" doesn't seem to cut it. I'm 6'2" and my aunty (as frail as a sparrow) is 5'3" and my uncle just laughs his ass off when she tells me off. Too funny. Keep doing what you are doing.

Had some experiences like that too.
    But,I found a solution.

When/if a debate commences you can end it your way by looking hurt and saying.
"please accept this with the grace with which it is given."
Ends the debate immediately or results in a scornful look of "how did you get past me" but ends it any case.
Works on older folks without fail...so far.

Or, take the offer gracefully and then use it to buy the next thing you do for them.
