Drivesafe, yeah I do agree. There is definately more than one devil here and our own government are the worst, followed by the oil refining companies, the Americans (as they need a high price with their production costs) and then probablly last the Arabs themselves. Many green organizations want the oil price kept high as it will stop a lot of pollution if it is unaffordable.

I’m no fan of the greenies, from personal experiences over one and a half decades, I found that they are bigger liars than our politicians and that saying something.

But in the case of fuel prices in this country and how the federal government has been playing it’s part.

Before Malcolm Fraser came to power, through the efforts of the CSIRO, Australia lead the world in solar technology but starting with that tall streak of pelican s*#t, successive governments, both liberal and labour, have cut back the CSIRO’s capacity to carry out R & D for the benefit of this country.

Probably as little as 10 years ago, the CSIRO was still actually carrying out more R & D than NASA did. I don’t know if that is still the case, but whatever, you can thank the federal government for taking away a technological edge we could have had over the rest of the world.

Anyway thats my bi*#h for the day.

Old Sheik Maktoum was a pretty smart fella.
UAE's oil is running out so they are diversifying to become a financial and tourism centre. When I was in Dubai in Feb 2005, I counted over 50 cranes building apartments at Jumeirah Beach.
They give residence rights to anyone who buys an apartment. I am telling you Many many many indians buy these so that they can establish a base outside India to reinvoice imports and avoid tax.
Dubai is also a smuggling port as it has been for thousands of years .The Dhow trade from the creek goes to Iran and points north with TVs etc etc . I even saw a Stage 1 being loaded for Iran.
They also havegood reserves of gas . You would not believe the number of Europeans holidaying there. They have 80 five star hotels. That is why they have the grass golf course and host the Dubai open, which I went to as a guest of the Dubai gas MD, well his secretary anyway. Went to the races too.

Our government do not help it much either as every time the price of crude goes up their revenue skyrockets, this is the only reason we have had surpluses and the government knows it. They will tell you it is good fiscal policy. What a crock.
thats what we should be doing with our coal...

we're currently selling it all to the japs for basically peanuts, and they're doing nothing with it except stockpiling! come the day when we run out of coal, you can bet your bottom dollar that the japs will be there selling it back to us at 50 times what they bought it for!!!

    cheers,

 twas just wondering and i hope someone can explain this ,but just before i went over to the big sandy island i was doing a couple of days work over the range at Warwick, here in Aratula the price for unleaded was $1.05 per litre,on the other side of the range ,it was $1.07,at Warwick caltex truck stop (huge place) it was $1.06 ,yet 500 metres down the road at a Matilda servo it was 99.9cents per litre, and a similar scenario was to be had at the Matilda servo just south of Gympie on the way to Fraser, now how come a small independant company can sell it cheaper than the big multi nationals,is it some big conspiracy to keep the price above the magical $1.00 mark,is it because school is going back in a couple of weeks that the price is all of a sudden going up again, just what is the go?????????????

I'm not saying this is the case here, but in the past independent stations have made brews to water the fuel down. I think they use toluene in sydney up to 40-50%. Toluene can be a good thing, but not at that ratio!
