    King of the Mountain

    Top Gear Video of the D3 climbing some never before climbed mountain in Scotland. Some critisism of the D3s design & weight, but an impressive display of it's off road performance.

    Watched that program the other night, must say that it is an impressive display of climbing wet grass


    But I am starting to fall in love with those damn D3s :roll:

    Yeah, i watched that at school when it was posted a month or so ago. I would have to agree with seqfisho, i am falling in love with them aswell. Once we have the bills paid off i am considering buying a post 2000 model p38a, but will also see what the resale values are on second hand D3's aswell. Matt

    Even if your not planning to get one yet, go test drive one.

    I’ve had mine ( the wife’s ) for a week now and the only complaint I have is those F*#King low beams.

    For my money, you can shove them where the sun don’t shine.

    I live out of town a bit and drive along a stretch of country road and those lights are down and outright dangerous not only for the D3 driver but for on coming vehicles.

    They are ultra bright where they shine on the road but you are then left with absolute zero visibility above the cut-off point and the poor soles coming the other way, over the slightest crest, are blinded and you can see they cringing and trying to see the road.

    drivesafe, stop whingeing about the lights and go out and get some spotties.

    Its an unfortunate fact of life that car headlights are steadily trending towards beams with wider spread at the expense of penetration. Euro roads are better lit and have less straight stretches than ours do.

    As you would know, the D3 is comfortable, well built and very capable. My only complaint is with the dealers who don't seem to really know the car and a reluctant to advise customers when there is a potential fault.

    Hi Jamo, completely agree with you about the spotties and my intentions are to fit them as soon as possible but even if I fit my usual 4 to 6 spot lights, they are of no use when you are driving along a straight bit of road out west doing 100 kph and a vehicle appears around a corner at the other end of the straight.

    Your doing 100 kph and switch to low beam. Now you are still doing 100 kph but you can only see more that 50 metres in front of you. Not real clever at all.

    These lights might be great in Europe, and lets face, if you live in Belgium, why would you even need high beam when every inch of the freeways have street lights.

    Not quite the same situation here. These light are completely out of place here and are total crap for anything other than suburban street use. They are definitely a major drawback when driving on country roads.

    In my opinion, this is one of those little extras that LR has added to please the Toorak Tractor crowd.

    Ironically, my RR came with standard headlights but within 12 months of the new model being released, all new Mark III RR had HID headlights fitted and I was peeved that I had not got them on mine. Now, as most of my long distance night driving is still going to be in the RR, I am very VERY grateful that I don’t have HID lights.

    Long distance night driving is going to be a pain in the butt with these HID lights and they are definitely going to make it more stressful and not an improvement at all.

    Interested in hearing what others feel about these light if they have done any long night drives yet.

    we laugh at him getting stuck in wet grass, but its peat moss.
    Now i'm no expert on peat moss, but my guess it is not the best to drive thru.....

    porrage with a lifeform on top??? sounds like QLD.......

    Peat Moss - exactly. I would say it was deliberate for the cameras as he could have avoided it easily.
