    Red face Be happy!

Are we Aussies happy? Reading the media you would think Australians were a dismal and gloomy bunch of worried, whining whingers. However, we are the ninth happiest nation in the world, according to the just-released and much-anticipated World Happiness Report.
    World Happiness Report

The top 10 are: Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, Finland, Netherlands, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Sweden.
The USA is 14th and falling fast because of increasing corruption and inequality, which the report's authors predict will increase under President Trump, whose policies will increase inequality. Germany was ranked 16, followed by the United Kingdom (19) and France (31).

The ranking took into consideration six variables: economic factors in the form of gross domestic product per capita, social support such as education and family life, healthy life expectancy, freedom...

The Thais are unhappy to only rank 32nd happiest, but what can you expect when you stage repeated military coups to keep the peasants under the thumb?

Elsewhere in Asean, Singapore is 26th, Malaysia ranked 42nd, followed by Indonesia (81), Vietnam (94), Myanmar (114) and Cambodia (129). Laos and Brunei were not included in the survey.
South Sudan, Liberia, Guinea, Togo, Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi and the Central African Republic were at the bottom.

So, come on you lot - stop your whining and
    DON'T WORRY - BE HAPPY!

Going by the people we met on our big trip a few years ago, I would've put Singapore and Finland at the top. Genuinely happy people.

If you judged it by reading the newspapers, Australia would have to be way down the list - everything is doom and gloom, and the Aus medias' unhealthy obsession with Donald Trump wouldn't lift the mood, either.

But ..... for a broken-down old plough horse, I don't feel too unhappy - a bit grumpy now and then, but basically happy!

The top 10 are: Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, Finland, Netherlands, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Sweden ..................

So one could assume from this list that the colder and more miserable (weather wise) the country the happier the people are ?

Or does the overwhelming effect of the euphoria when the snow melts and the temperature rises above zero transcend the otherwise cold and miserable living conditions giving a 'false high' in the happiness measure ?

Yes, it shows you don't need a warm climate to be happy.
Also that democratic countries with a social welfare system aimed at reducing inequality produce the happiest people.
