    Interesting information

I was listening to a discussion on power supply companies and their different discount rates. One of the panel said to forget the discounts offered and ask how much per Kw/h they charge. That is the big saving. You might get offered a good discount but pay a higher price per Kw/h. Thoughts?

They are exactly right mate...I have done many comparisons between suppliers, the tariff per kwh definitely needs to be taken into account...I am on some of the best tariffs I can find at the moment(with discount off the top of that), and every time I am offered a big discount plan, I look into the tariffs, and I would be paying more in the long run if I were to switch. Solar feed in price is another one to watch when switching.

Definitely, and not just on power. Marketers know that consumers seem to get hung up on a discount.... but what matters in the number you pay not the % they supposedly save you. So both the starting price and the discount matter, but all the advertising focus is on the discount.

Would you rather 35% off $100...... or 25% off $80 ?........ I'll take the 25% and save myself $5 thanks..

The other trap with power, is the daily supply charge. You can pay a better rate and get a great discount on usage ..... but give it all back with a higher daily supply charge.
