Bit early to tell. It will dry out enough in a day or so once it stops raining. Who knows when that will be. I would normally say go inland, but that it where it is heading. Keep an eye on RACQ website.
I am driving to Townsville this weekend , what are my chances of getting through?
My daughter who is a teacher furthering her education externally through the James Cook University & has some lectures & assessments at the uni its self next week & asked me to drive up with her. We looked at flying but because it is the 1st week of the school holidays the airlines have put there prices up, & with the cost of the accommodation & hiring a car she can't afford it . Also she is not too keen on staying in Townsville by her self.
So those of you who live between Brisbane & Townsville are we going to get through ? I will probably drive my Falcon Ute leaving Saturday morning & stay in Rockhampton that night to be in Townsville Sunday afternoon . Are there any parts of the Bruce Hwy that are going to be flooded to stop us getting through?
When I was working I would drive up there about 12 times a year & the only problem I had was north of Ingham .
My second problem is what the hell am I going to do in Townsville during the day while she is a Uni ?It would be good to find some Series Land Rovers to look at . I will be there from Monday 3rd April leaving Friday 7th April.
Also depending on which vehicle we go in I may have room to bring parts back to Rockhampton & Brisbane. We don't want to have to make any detors on the way through as we want to be home by Saturday night.

I would go the inland route.
Brisbane - Toowoomba - Roma - Emerald - Charters Towers - Townsville. Not much difference time wise, and because you're off the coast road, lots less worry about road closures.
If you've got a UHF in the ute, listen in on 40. the truckies will tell each other if there are any issues ahead.

South side of Mackay goes under.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
Townsville airport reopens tomorrow. Maybe fly?
Too early to know about damage to Bruce Highway.
Too important a decision for a forum. Try the professionals. Forget the inland way, the Belyando crossing will be up, in a falcon, forget it.

And/or Cape River Bob. I'll wager the Bruce will be trafficable by the weekend.
